Roles and permissions


We are working towards creating a role-based (Skill Category) product installation process. To achieve this, we are dividing the installation into steps that can be performed by a single person with a specific job role. In the z/OSMF Workflows user interface, each step is assigned to the specific role.

Description

z/OS System Programmer

In a z/OS environment, the z/OS system programmer performs standard system programming activities like configuration, installation, and maintenance using SMP/E, and vendor software installation in the mainframe environment.

Security Administrator

In a z/OS environment, the security administrator creates the groups, user IDs, and resource profiles for your z/OSMF configuration. 

UNIX System Services System Programmer or USS System Programmer

In a z/OS environment, the USS system programmer performs tasks related to the UNIX System Services environment, such as setting up security privileges and defining and maintaining file systems.

Db2 System Programmer

In a z/OS environment, the Db2 system programmer is responsible for system software installation, deployment, setup, management, and resolving issues that affect Db2 installation (service).  

IMS System Programmer

In a z/OS environment, the IMS system programmer is responsible for system software installation, deployment, setup, management, and resolving issues that affect IMS installation (service).  

Network Administrator

In a z/OS environment, the network administrator is responsible for network design, hardware selection, creating and maintaining local customization (for example, user exits), and network definitions required for software installation and setup.
