FAQs: IBM z/OSMF and other requirements


Before installing and configuring your product, make sure that your environment meets the requirements described in this topic. Also, review all questions listed in this topic. 

What are the z/OSMF-specific requirements for installing and configuring a portable software instance?

  • IBM z/OSMF is installed and configured on your system. For more information, see IBM z/OS Management Facility Configuration documentation. 
  • You have applied the appropriate z/OSMF maintenance PTFs, based on the IBM z/OS version that you are running.
  • You have permission to use both Software Management and Workflows.
  • You have the required access permissions in z/OSMF. 

Important

In z/OSMF, you can view and access all tasks for which you are authorized, based on group assignment. For example, if you are in the IZUUSER group, you have access to all z/OSMF plug-ins. IZUUSER is for users who have valid Resource Access Control Facility (RACF) credentials. For administrative tasks, you require membership in the IZUADMIN group (general administration) or IZUSECAD (security-based administration).

I am installing a new product. What type of product authorization do I need?

Each product requires a CPU authorization password.

You can apply a password before, during, or after installing a product, but you must apply the password before you can use the product. 

I am running my product workflow. What mainframe roles are available to run my product workflow completely?

How much space do I need to install a product?

During the installation process, the system determines the space requirements for SMP/E targets, distribution, and auxiliary data sets based on the selected products. For more information, see Installation-requirements.

My company is new to BMC. Do I need to register to obtain downloads and access technical support?

If your company has never used any BMC product before, register your support ID, also called a Contract ID.
