Changing the port number

The port number for the UIM server is the address of a TCP/IP application, in this case the UIM server, on a z/OS image.

The UIM server has one port number that consoles use to contact the UIM server. You can change the port number globally for all consoles that communicate with the UIM server.

To change the port number

  1. Open your startup configuration member for editing.

    The startup member name is typically the same as the started task procedure name for the UIM server.

  2. In the member, find the PORT variable.
    The following example shows the variable set to the default port number, 9999:

      <bmc_parm id="PORT" value="9999" />

    Note

    UIM has a registered port number of 3683 with Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).

  3. Change the value of PORT to a unique numeric value from 1 through 65535.

    Warning

    Check with your TCP/IP administrator to ensure that you are entering a unique port number. If you do not enter a unique port number, program errors might occur.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
