Using CES
Related topic
BMC AMI Common Enterprise Services (CES) is a required web platform component providing common services for both BMC AMI Products for Web and BMC AMI DevX Workbench for Eclipse.
BMC AMI Platform supports the integration of CES. You can add multiple instances of CES and cross-launch CES in a new window. This integration extends the value of CES by enabling CES users to take advantage of BMC AMI Platform capabilities such as BMC AMI Assistant.
Process overview of launching CES via BMC AMI Platform
The following steps outline the process:
- Create CES role and users: The BMC AMI Platform administrator creates a CES role and users.
- Assign the CES role: The BMC AMI Platform administrator assigns the CES role to new users.
- Manage CES instances: Users with the CES role can add, edit, and delete CES instances.
- Cross-launch CES: Users with the CES role can cross-launch CES in a new tab or a window from a CES instance.
To create and assign a role, see Roles.
Compatible versions of CES
BMC AMI Platform natively supports CES versions 23.04.06 and later modifications levels within the 23.04 release, as well as 24.05.01 and later. When you add a CES instance by using these versions, the credentials you enter are securely stored in the database and automatically reused for future access.
BMC AMI Platform also supports CES version 20.15.03 or later, but you must enter your credentials each time you access CES from BMC AMI Platform.
CES versions that are earlier than 20.15.03 aren't supported because they don't use the ADAPT user interface.
To add a CES instance
Stand-alone CES users can use both HTTPS and HTTP. However, to cross-launch CES via BMC AMI Platform, you must use HTTPS only. To configure a CES instance on BMC AMI Platform, make sure that CES is using HTTPS and is up and running, and the CES role is assigned to you.
To add a CES instance, perform the following steps:
Log on to BMC AMI Platform by entering your credentials.
- Click the CES tab.
- Click New instance.
- In the Add new instance window, enter the following details:
- Instance name: Enter an instance name to easily identify it. For example, enter Test1.
- Host: Enter the host name or number. For example, enter clm-eu-b92x7c12.bmc.com. Make sure that the host is using HTTPS.
- Port: The default port number is 48443. If you choose to update it, make sure that you specify the port number that is configured for your CES instance.
To identify the port number used by your CES instance, navigate to the Web Server Settings page within the CES interface and review the port configuration. Use the port number listed under the HTTPS protocol when adding the CES instance to BMC AMI platform.
- Click Continue.
- Click Add.
After adding an instance, you can view it on the CES tab.
To perform an action on a CES instance
You can perform the following actions on a CES instance:

| Purpose | Action |
|---|---|
| Cross-launch CES in a new window. | Click Launch on a CES instance. |
| If you stopped the CES host or it was down for any reason, and you want to check the status, you can test the host connection. | Click |
| Edit an instance name. | Click |
| Delete an instance. | Click |
To update the authentication mode in a CES instance
If the authentication mode of a stand-alone CES instance is changed, the update doesn't reflect automatically in the platform. To ensure proper synchronization, you must manually update the CES instance with the latest authentication details.
To notify CES users via email
The email notification feature for CES currently supports user creation events only. When a new user is added, the system triggers an email notification as part of the onboarding flow. For more information, see Using Notification system.
