Using BMC AMI Assistant


This topic introduces BMC AMI Assistant, a GenAI-powered conversational assistant integrated into the BMC AMI Platform. It helps you get trusted answers in real time by combining public product documentation with internal SME knowledge. Whether you're an OPS, DevX, or zAdviser user, BMC AMI Assistant tailors its guidance to your role, streamlines your workflow, and makes it easier to find the information you need. The assistant supports multiple languages, including English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish, to ensure an accessible and user-friendly experience.

Before you begin

When logging in for the first time, after the administrator provides you with the credentials, you must set a new password that meets the product’s policy requirements.

Questions and responses

Log in to the BMC AMI Platform and enter your question in plain language. As you begin typing your question, BMC AMI Assistant displays a few question suggestions based on what you have entered. You can choose one of the suggested questions or simply continue typing your own.

You can also select a role-specific prompt for Ops, DevX, or other roles, based on assignments configured by the system administrator.

You can interact with the response as follows:

  • Select Regenerate to get a different perspective.
  • Select Copy to reuse the answer.
  • Rate the response by clicking thumb up 👍 or thumb down 👎. You can also provide feedback to improve future answers.
Success

Best practice
BMC AMI Assistant retrieves answers from BMC public documentation, SME knowledge, and your internal content, and displays the sources it used. It retains context across turns, so you can ask follow-up questions without repeating yourself.

Chat history

You can use chat history to avoid repeating questions, to track troubleshooting steps and decisions, and to share relevant conversations with teammates.

To view chat history, in the left pane, click the toggle panel button and select your preferred response from the history list. Then select a conversation to review or resume.

My Profile

You can use the My profile menu to perform the following actions:

  • Change password
  • Copy API key
  • Link to the BMC AMI Platform documentation
  • Sign out

To change a password

  1. Click the profile icon.
  2. From the profile menu, click Change password.
  3. From the password change window, in the Current password field, enter your current password (required).
  4. In the New password field, enter your new password (required).
  5. In the Confirm password field, enter your new password again (required).
    Warning
    Important

    Password must contain the following details:
    -At least one uppercase letter
    -At least one lowercase letter
    -At least one numeric character
    -At least one special character
    -At least 8 characters long
    -Must not exceed 16 characters

    BMC AMI Platform does not trigger password validation for mainframe users. If a password violates the mainframe policy, the system rejects it and displays a notification.
