What is the BMC AMI Assistant in BMC AMI Products?
Our AI Assistant enhances productivity in mainframe environments by providing code explanations, root cause analysis, code generation, and recommendations for next steps based on root cause explanations. It helps developers and system programmers understand complex code, troubleshoot issues, modernize applications, and resolve incidents efficiently.
How does the BMC AMI Assistant ensure accuracy and reliability?
AI-generated insights are recommendations, not absolute solutions—users must review and validate outputs before implementation. BMC AMI Assistant leverages available data, follows AI best practices, and user feedback to minimize errors and improve recommendations.
What are the intellectual property (IP) considerations when using AI-generated content?
The AI models used by BMC AMI Assistant may have been trained on publicly available code and documentation. Users should use caution and follow their organization’s IP policies and verify BMC AMI Assistant content before use.
How does the BMC AMI Assistant generate code?
BMC AMI Assistant uses LLMs and provides automated suggestions, such as converting COBOL code to Java, accelerating modernization efforts. Human validation is required to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to best practices.
How does the BMC AMI Assistant recommend the next steps based on root cause explanations?
After identifying the root cause of an issue, BMC AMI Assistant suggests remediation steps, configuration changes, or automation opportunities to resolve it. Recommendations can be tailored based on historical data, system and event logs, and best practices for mainframe operations. Users can customize AI-generated next steps based on organizational policies and workflows.
Can the BMC AMI Assistant introduce security risks?
BMC AMI Assistant follows very strict security protocols and policies, where sensitive system data, credentials, or proprietary code are not exposed without granted permission. Customer personal data is subject to BMC’s Data Processing Agreement (DPA) and processed according to EU and UK highest data privacy standards, as per BMC’s Data Privacy Binding Corporate Rules (BCR). Users are advised to follow secure coding and validation practices.
How does the BMC AMI Assistant prevent bias and ensure fairness?
While BMC AMI Assistant-generated responses are designed to be neutral and unbiased to avoid discriminatory or misleading language, ultimately, the user’s regular evaluations help detect and mitigate inaccuracies or biases in AI outputs.
Can users customize BMC AMI Assistant-generated output?
Yes, users can customize the level of detail based on the persona and skill level for BMC AMI Assistant-generated explanations and recommendations. The system provides traceability, allowing users to understand the reasoning behind generated suggestions.
Who owns the AI-generated output of BMC AMI Assistant?
Users retain full ownership of their work. BMC AMI Assistant does not claim any rights over generated suggestions. Users should review generated content to ensure compliance with licensing and attribution requirements.
Does the BMC AMI Assistant support compliance with industry regulations?
Yes, it aligns with GDPR, SOC 2, and other compliance frameworks to ensure responsible AI use. It follows mainframe security policies, ensuring AI-driven insights do not compromise regulatory compliance. In addition, BMC is committed to responsible AI practices under the European Artificial Intelligence Act and signed the EU AI Pact Pledge.
Is the BMC AMI Assistant intended to replace human experts?
No, BMC AMI Assistant is designed to augment human decision-making, not replace it. It enhances insights and recommendations but does not substitute human expertise. Users should apply their own judgment, validation, and security best practices when leveraging AI-generated insights.
What is BMC AMI Common Enterprise Services (CES)?
CES is a web platform component that provides shared services for BMC AMI Products for Web and BMC AMI DevX Workbench for Eclipse. It enables centralized management and integration across BMC AMI tools.
How does the CES integration with BMC AMI Platform help me?
You can cross-launch CES from BMC AMI Platform in a new window. This integration allows you to access CES features alongside platform capabilities such as BMC AMI Assistant and Knowledge Hub.
Which versions of CES can I integrate with BMC AMI Platform?
BMC AMI Platform natively supports CES versions 23.04.06 and later, as well as 24.05.01 and later. When you add a CES instance that is using these versions, the credentials you enter are securely stored in the database and automatically reused for future access.
BMC AMI Platform also supports CES version 20.15.03 or later, but you must enter your credentials each time you access CES from the platform.
CES versions earlier than 20.15.03 aren't supported because they don't use the ADAPT user interface.
If you are using CES versions 24.01.xx, 24.02.xx, 24.03.xx, 24.04.xx, you can access CES via Platform, but you must enter your credentials each time you access CES from the platform.
Can I use HTTP to connect CES to BMC AMI Platform?
No. To cross-launch CES via BMC AMI Platform, HTTPS is required.
What actions can I perform on a CES instance?
You can perform the following actions:
- Launch CES in a new window.
- Edit the name of a CES instance.
- Delete a CES instance.
- Test the connection to verify the CES host availability.
Can I add multiple CES instances to BMC AMI Platform?
Yes, users with the CES role can add, edit, and manage multiple CES instances.
What is the default port for CES integration?
The default port is 48443, but you can update it while adding a CES instance.
How are CES users notified about system issues?
CES users can receive email notifications about issues such as certificate expiry or unknown performance problems. These alerts help prioritize critical actions.
Can I access CES independently of BMC AMI Platform?
Yes. You can use CES as a stand-alone service via HTTP or HTTPS. However, for integrated access through BMC AMI Platform, HTTPS is required.
