Installing Reporting Server on Solaris


Use the following procedure to install the Reporting Server (BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 4.0 SP4 and Patch 1) on a Solaris computer.

Before you begin

  • Ensure that you have created a new OS user with a home directory on which the user has all privileges. The user created must meet all requirements mentioned in Preparing your system to use the bundled IBM DB2 Database. This user must also have all permissions on the directory to which you want to install the software and on the directory that contains the installation files. Ensure that after logging in to the system with this user, the $HOME variable is appropriately set as the home directory. This user must also be used to install patch 1.
  • Ensure that you have the BMC Reporting Foundation - Solaris Full Install DVD.
  • The computer must meet the system requirements. See System requirements for more information.
  • The account that will run BMC Reporting Foundation as a process must already exist.
  • Before installing BMC Reporting Foundation, verify that the following variable is set appropriately:
    • LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
  • Ensure that all pre-requisites to prepare the system for IBM DB2 Database are met. See Preparing your system to use the bundled IBM DB2 Database.
  • You must install the BusinessObjects Client Tools on a Windows computer. For more information about installing client tools, see Installing BMC Reporting Foundation Client Tools only.
  • Do not specify a path that contains spaces.

To  Install BMC Reporting Foundation Server Components

  1. From the files you downloaded from the BMC EPD site, select and decompress BRF_SOL_SERVER_40_SP4_FULL.tar.
  2. Navigate to <Install dir>\image and type unrar x 51043403_part1.exe <target dir> to decompress the file. A folder 51043403 is created in the <target dir>.
  3. Navigate to <targetdir>/51043403/DATA_UNITS/BusinessObjectsServer_sol and run setup.sh file to start the installation.
  4. The script prompts you to select the language for installation. Use the arrow keys to select English, and press Enter.

     

    Note

    Ensure that you select only English as the setup language.

  5. The script prompts you for the installation path for BMC Reporting Foundation 4.0.00. Enter the path, and click Enter. A slight time lag is likely.

     

    Note

    If the path that you entered does not exist, the script prompts you for confirmation to create the folders. Press Enter.

  6. Review the Prerequisite Check page and check that all the critical and optional prerequisites have succeeded.
  7. On the Welcome page, click Enter.
  8. On the License Agreement page, read the license agreement. Press Enter to accept and continue.
  9. The script prompts you for the product keycode. Enter the product keycode, and press Enter.

    Note

    If you do not have a license key, you can obtain one through the BMC Electronic Product Distribution website. If you require additional license key information, visit the Customer Support website at http://www.bmc.com/support. You can also send an e-mail message to customer_support@bmc.com, mentioning which BMC products you want to use with BMC Reporting Foundation. For example, BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Reporting, and BMC Performance Manager Portal (for Crystal Reports).

  10. The script prompts for the language packs for installation. Use the default value (English), and press Enter.
  11. The script prompts you to select User Install or System Install. Select 1 - User Install, and press Enter.
  12. The script prompts you to select the Install Type. Select 1 - Full and press Enter.
  13. The script prompts you to select default or existing database. Select 1 - Install and Use default database and press Enter.
  14. The script prompts you for installation of Java Web Application Server. Select 1 - Install Tomcat application server and press Enter.
  15. The script prompts you for installing and configuring version management. Select 1 - Install and use subversion and press Enter.
  16. The script prompts for information pertaining to the Server Intelligence Agent. Enter the Server Intelligence Agent name. Use the default value for Server Intelligence Agent Port, and press Enter.
  17. The script prompts for CMS account credentials and Cluster key. Enter the Administrator account password and Cluster key and press Enter.

     

    Note

    Communication between some CMS components is encrypted to provide a higher level of security when using clusters. CMS Cluster key is of significance if you are using clustered environment. The cluster key must match the key entered on the existing CMS host, to which you are attempting to connect. Please refer to the SAP Business Objects documentation for further information about clustering.

  18. The script prompts for configuring the DB2 Server. Press Enter.
  19. The script prompts for the Tomcat server port numbers. Use the default values, and press Enter.
  20. The script prompts for the HTTP listening port number. Use the default values, and press Enter.
  21. The script prompts for the Subversion Configuration. Use the default value for port. Enter the Repository user password and press Enter.
  22. The script prompts for configure connectivity Solution Manager Diagnostic (SMD) agent. Select 1- Do not configure and press Enter.
  23. The script prompts for Introscope Integration. Select 1- Do not integrate and press Enter.
  24. The script prompts you to start installation. Press Enter.
  25. After installation is complete press Enter.
