Migrating Microsoft SQL Server or IBM DB2 to Sybase SQL Anywhere

Sybase SQL Anywhere is the default, bundled database server for the CMS and Auditing Data Store of BMC Reporting Foundation 4.1.00.

If you are upgrading from BMC Reporting Foundation version 4.0.00 that uses the bundled Microsoft SQL Server or IBM DB2 Workgroup edition to version 4.1.00 with the update installation program, your database is retained and you can still use this database with no further action. Or you can migrate your existing databases to Sybase SQL Anywhere.

Before you begin

Back up your existing CMS database. For more information about backing up your existing CMS database, see the “Preparing to copy a CMS system database” section from Business Intelligence Platform Administrator Guide of SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform 4.1 SP3. You can download the guide from SAP BusinessObjects Indirect Client Knowledge Center.

Migrating to Sybase SQL Anywhere

  1. Upgrade BMC Reporting Foundation version 4.0.00 to 4.1.00, see Upgrading-BMC-Reporting-Foundation-from-version-4-0-00-to-version-4-1-00.
  2. Open Control Panel and modify the installation of BusinessObjects 4.1 SP3. Select and install the Sybase SQL Anywhere feature.
  3. Use the Central Configuration Manager (CCM) to copy the CMS database contents from your existing bundled database to Sybase SQL Anywhere, then point the CMS and auditing databases to SQL Anywhere as the active server.
  4. Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express (Windows) or IBM DB2 Workgroup Edition (Unix) using the command line.
