Installing Reporting Server on Solaris

Use the following procedure to install the Reporting Server (SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.1 SP3 and Patch 3) on a Solaris computer.

Before you begin

  • Ensure that you have created a new OS user with a home directory on which the user has all privileges. This user must also have all permissions on the directory to which you want to install the software and on the directory that contains the installation files. Ensure that after logging in to the system with this user, the $HOME variable is appropriately set as the home directory. This user must also be used to install patch 3.
  • Ensure that you have the BMC Reporting Foundation - Solaris Full Install DVD.
  • The computer must meet the system requirements. See System-requirements-and-product-compatibility for more information.
  • The account that will run BMC Reporting Foundation as a process must already exist.
  • Before installing BMC Reporting Foundation, set the installing account's environment to use a supported UTF-8 locale and ensure that your console software supports UTF-8 character sets. To ensure that your operating system uses the correct locale, set the LC_ALL and LANG environment variables to your preferred locale in your login environment.

    For example, the following bash shell commands set the locale to the United States English UTF-8 locale:

    LANG=en_US.UTF-8
    export LANG
    LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
    export LC_ALL
  • Ensure that all pre-requisites are completed before installing BMC Reporting Foundation. See Installation-prerequisites.
  • You must install the BusinessObjects Client Tools on a Windows computer. For more information about installing client tools, see Installing-BMC-Reporting-Foundation-Client-Tools-only.
  • Do not specify a path that contains spaces.
