OTel Namespace Overview dashboard


Use the OTel Namespace Overview dashboard to visualize and analyze the trace data summary of a specific business service and associated namespace.

Important

The dashboard is available only if the BMC Helix OpenTelemetry service is enabled for your tenant. To enable this service, contact BMC Support.


The dashboard provides the following information about the constituent services of an instrumented application:

  • Total services
  • Top-level and total operations
  • Top five services with the most errors and latency
  • Top five services with the low user satisfaction score
  • Average latency
  • Average user satisfaction score

To view the dashboard

  1. From the navigation menu menu_icon.png, click Dashboards.
  2. Search for the Helix OpenTelemetry folder and select it.
  3. Click OTel Namespace Overview.
    The dashboard is displayed.

  4. From the Business Service list, select a business service.
    The list shows the business services for which OpenTelemetry is enabled.
  5. From the OTel Namespace list, select a namespace.
  6. (Optional) Change the date range for the data displayed in the dashboard; the default is three hours.
  7. Review the telemetry data of the namespace in the dashboard panels.

Tip: Quick access from the Home page

To quickly open the dashboard from the Home page, mark it as a favorite by using the star icon. Additionally, after you open a dashboard, it is available under Recently viewed dashboards on the Home page.

Panel

Description

Total Services

Displays the total number of application services for the selected business service and namespace. 

Top Level Operations

Displays the number of top-level operations that occurred in the selected business service, namespace, and application service. A top-level operation is the first operation that is started within a trace.

Total Operations

Displays the total number of operations that occurred in the selected business service, namespace, and application service.

Average Latency

Displays the average latency of traces (in ms) during the selected period.

Average User Satisfaction (APDEX)

Displays the average user satisfaction score for the selected business service, namespace, and application service. Any score close to one indicates a good satisfaction level. Any score close to zero indicates poor satisfaction.

Top 5 Services with Most Errors

Displays the top five application services in the descending order of their error count. The service with the highest error count is displayed at the top of the list. To view service-specific details for further analysis, click a service name to navigate to the OTel Service Overview dashboard.

Top 5 Services with Longest Latency

Displays the top five application services in the descending order of their latency. The service with the longest latency is displayed at the top of the list. To view service-specific details for further analysis, click a service name to navigate to the OTel Service Overview dashboard.

Top 5 Services with Worst Average User Satisfaction Score (APDEX)

Displays the top five application services for which the average user satisfaction score is not satisfactory. The service with the lowest user satisfaction score is displayed at the top of the list followed by the other services in the descending order of their user satisfaction scores. To view service-specific details for further analysis, click a service name to navigate to the OTel Service Overview dashboard.

OTel Service Details for <namespace>

Displays the following details for each application service. Click a value in the table to navigate to the OTel Service Overview dashboard for additional information.

  • Average user satisfaction score
  • Top-level and total operations
  • Errors and latency values
