Localizing the content of dashboards

Supported locales

BMC Helix Dashboards supports the following languages for localization:

• French
• German
• Spanish
• French (Canada)
• English (Canada) 

BMC Helix Dashboards supports complete localization of most artifacts, but some artifacts and plug-ins are not localized. For details, see Localized and nonlocalized artifacts.

To change the language

You can change the default language in the Default preferences section. 

To change the default language for all users

A tenant administrator can set the default language to be used to display content for all the BMC Helix Dashboards users in the organization.

1. From the navigation menu , click Administration > General.
2. On the Default preferences tab, select a language in which you want the content to be displayed from the Language list.
   The default language is changed for all the users in the organization. 

To change the default language for an individual user

An editor or a viewer can change the default language setting for their own individual account. This change overrides the language set by the tenant administrator.

1. Click the user icon and select Profile.
2. In the Preferences section, select a language from the Language list.

To localize a dashboard folder 

A user can change the language of any dashboard folder. To do so, perform these steps: -

1. Open a folder
2. From the Folder options list, select Manage Locales.

3. ​Select your desired language and click Save.

4.  To validate the display of translated folders, select the same translated language from the Profile settings.

5. Navigate to your folder again.

6.  

   The folder name is translated to the selected language.

   
    

To localize the dashboard labels

As an administrator or editor, configure the settings to localize dashboard labels, such as dashboard names and descriptions.

1. Open a dashboard for which you want to localize the labels and click the Settings icon ​​.  
2. On the Localization tab, create a new key to localize any dashboard label.​​​​​​

   A key is a unique identifier for a dashboard label. It is linked to the translated value in the selected language. There are two types of keys:

   • Local key — A local key is created specifically for an individual dashboard and can be used within that specific dashboard.
   • Global key — Global keys are applicable across all dashboards. They are shared keys used commonly in multiple dashboards.
3. To create a key, perform the following steps: 
   1. Click New key.
      
   2. Enter a key and its default value.
   3. Click Add.
      
       
4. From the language list, select the desired language for translation.
   
    
5. Save the dashboard.
6. Perform these steps to use this key for displaying the correct value in the translated language:

   1. Navigate to your dashboard panel for which you want to localize the labels, hover over it, and click .

   2. Click Edit.

   3. Under Panel options, click the Title field.

   4. Press Ctrl+Y to select the local or global key directly.
      
      

   5. Perform the previous step to add another key to translate other labels.

   6. Click Apply.

   7. (Optional)Perform the previous steps to localize the other dashboard panels. 

7.  ​To validate the display of translated labels, select the same translated language from the Profile settings and refresh the dashboard.
