Self-monitoring dashboard

The dashboard on Self Monitoring displays the following information:

  • Summary of generated events
  • Log volume statistics
  • Log archival statistics
  • Log ingestion statistics
  • List of log events

Only the log events that are generated when alert policies are applied on the logs are displayed in the dashboard. If no alert policies are created or no events are generated for the alert policies, event count is shown as 0 in the dashboard.

Log Volume

Displays the following information about logs:

  • The volume of ingested logs in MB
  • Hot Retention Duration in days. This is the duration for which data remains live in ElasticSearch.

    Important

In BMC Helix Dashboards, the scheduler runs every 15 minutes and updates the ElasticSearch data every 15 minutes. This could lead to inconsistency in the data if you select the Last 5 minutes filter. To avoid this issue, BMC recommends to select the Last 30 minutes filter.

If there is a change in the retention period, it could take up to 30 minutes for the changes to be reflected in the Self Monitoring dashboard.

  • Log ingestion in a day
  • The top 10 collectors and hosts by log volume.
