Upgrading
Use the procedures in this section to upgrade the product. If just the BMC Atrium DIL component is installed on the host, use the UpgradeDIL command. If both BMC Atrium DIL and the BMC Dashboards for BSM application server or just the BMC Dashboards for BSM application server are installed on the host, you can use the installation utility to perform the upgrade. The upgrade process is essentially the same for each version from which you are upgrading and for Microsoft Windows (32-bit) or UNIX. Any variations are described in the procedures.
Before you begin
Consider the following points before you upgrade:
- You can upgrade from the following versions:
- version 2.5x
- version 7.6x
The steps that you follow for upgrading your product vary according to the components that you have installed. Use the following table as a guide.
Installed component
Upgrade options
BMC Dashboards for BSM application server and BMC Atrium DIL (single-server deployment)
Use the version 7.7.00 installation utility to upgrade to a standalone configuration of BMC Dashboards for BSM.
See Upgrading BMC Dashboards for BSM.
BMC Dashboards for BSM application server (dual-server deployment)
Use the version 7.7.00 installation utility to upgrade to a standalone BMC Dashboards for BSM application server.
See Upgrading BMC Dashboards for BSM.
BMC Atrium DIL only (dual server deployment)
Use the version 7.7.00 UpgradeDIL command-line utility to upgrade to a standalone configuration with an embedded BMC Atrium DIL database.
See Upgrading BMC Atrium DIL.
- If you have a standalone configuration and want to change that to a clustered configuration, you must first upgrade to version 7.7.00 and then modify the installation so that you can create the clustered configuration. For more information, see Modifying-the-installation.
- If you are upgrading on a Windows 64-bit computer, and the previous version was installed in the default directory, you must perform some manual steps to complete the upgrade. For more information about the steps, see Upgrading-from-the-Windows-64-bit-default-installation-path.
- For Microsoft Windows, ensure that you have rights for the administrator group and are logged on as an administrator.
- Make sure that the computer meets the minimum installation requirements as described in the Planning section and in the compatibility matrix.
- Any custom data sources, data views, and pods created using a previous version of the product are preserved. However, you might have to reconfigure a custom data source when you attempt to create or modify a data view based on that data source.
