Firewall considerations
By default, ports 8080 and 8443 are the only ports that are needed between the BMC Dashboards for BSM client and the Tomcat application server. These are the Apache Tomcat HTTP and HTTPS ports, respectively. These ports are configured during installation and can be modified after installation by updating the TomcatInstallationDirectory\conf\server.xml configuration file. By default, on Microsoft Windows, it is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BMCDashboardsForBSM\BSMDashboards\tomcat\conf.
Port 9401 is the only port that needs to be open between the BMC Dashboards for BSM server and BMC Atrium DIL. Increment this port by 10 if port collisions are detected during DIL installation. If you are planning to install a clustered configuration, your load balancer will determine the port requirements.
View the port in use in %BSMDASHBOARDS_HOME%\BSMDashboards\tomcat\webapps\bsmdashboards\META-INF\context.xml.
When you install BMC Dashboards for BSM in a distributed environment, the following ports must be open between the BMC Dashboards for BSM server and the BMC Atrium DIL server:
- UDP Port 39768—To allow discovery of the BMC Atrium DIL repository server during the installation of the BMC Dashboards for BSM application server.
- TCP Port 6300—For successful installation of the BMC Dashboards for BSM application server during an update of the BMC Atrium DIL repository.
- TCP Ports 9400 to 9408—To enable access to the BMC Atrium DIL repository.
The ports that need to be open between BMC Atrium DIL and the data sources are user configurable, but the defaults are as follows:
Data source | Port numbers |
|---|---|
BMC Remedy AR System | MS SQL Server: 1433 Oracle: 1521 DB2 Universal Database: 50000 Sybase: 4100 |
BMC Service Impact Manager | BMC Impact Integration Web Service: 6070 (7.3 and earlier) or 9080 (7.3.01) BMC Impact Portal Executive Dashboards Web Service: 9378 |
BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management | RMI: 1099 TCP: 12128 (if there is a firewall between BMC Atrium DIL and the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management server) |
BMC TM ART | 19120 |
Additional ports mentioned in the product documentation are used for inter-process communication within a single server and will not affect firewall configuration.
