Configuring DEP on computers with Windows Server 2003 SP1 and later

Before installing BMC Dashboards for BSM on a Windows Server 2003 SP1 or later computer, you must configure the data execution prevention (DEP) feature to recognize the installation program. If the DEP is not configured to recognize the installation program, the DEP feature can block the installation program from continuing and an error message might appear stating that DEP is blocking the installation program. This problem is caused by an enhanced DEP feature that Microsoft included in SP1.

To configure a Windows Server 2003 SP1 computer to recognize the BMC Dashboards for BSM installation program

  1. From the Windows Desktop, right-click the My Computer icon.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Select the Advanced tab.
  4. Under the Performance heading, select Settings.
  5. Select the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) tab.
  6. Select Turn on DEP for programs and services except those I select.
  7. Click Add.
  8. Select the setup.cmd file from the installation CD or downloaded files.
  9. Click Open.
  10. Click Apply and OK.
  11. Click OK to close the System Properties window.
