Installing Apache httpd

Follow the steps given below to install Apache httpd:

  1. Obtain Apache httpd version 2.2 from http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi
  2. Install the server.
    1. On the Server Information page, ensure that the option for All Users, on Port 80, as a Service – Recommended is enabled.
    2. During the installation, you might see the following message if port 80 is already in use. This message will not cause the installation to fail, but the service might not start. If the service does not start, you can update the port by following the instructions in step 3.

<OS 10013> An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions. : make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down
  3. After the installation completes, verify that the Apache2.2 service is running.

If the service is not running, update the httpd.conf file to replace port number 80 with an unused port as follows:
    1. Navigate to the httpd.conf file. If you installed by using the default location, the file is at C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\conf\httpd.conf.
    2. Create a backup copy of the httpd.conf file.
    3. Open the httpd.conf file using a text editor and replace all instances of port 80 with the number of an unused port.
    4. Start the Apache2.2 service.

If the service does not start, you may need to repeat these steps to ensure that the port you specify is unused.
