Modifying the installation

You can use the installation utility to modify the BMC Dashboards for BSM version 7.7.00 installation.

If you have an older version of BMC Dashboards for BSM installed, you must first upgrade to version 7.7.00 before you can perform any of the tasks listed in this section.

Consider the following points before modifying your installation:

  • If you are reconfiguring your authentication type to BMC Atrium Single Sign-On (BMC Atrium SSO), you must have previously installed the BMC Atrium SSO server.
  • If you are reconfiguring the authentication type, the users that you added to the product when you used a different authentication type are invalid after the completion of this task. You can delete these users, or you can maintain these users if you plan to reconfigure your authentication type in the future.
  • If you want to reconfigure an internal BMC Atrium Data Integration Layer (BMC Atrium DIL) caching database to be an external database or if you want to reconfigure a BMC Dashboards for BSM application server to be a clustered application server, you must have created the database and user before performing the reconfiguration. For more information, see Creating-the-database-for-BMC-Atrium-DIL-and-BMC-Dashboards-for-BSM-application-server.

The options that are available for modifying the installation vary according to the components that are installed on the host. The following table contains the reconfiguration options in the installation utility for the installed component and additional information for reconfiguring the standalone component to be a clustered component. For the steps required for each reconfiguration scenario, see Procedures-for-modifying-the-installation.

Standalone BMC Dashboards for BSM application server

  • Reconfigure the authentication type.
  • Reconfigure this installation to be a clustered application server (requires an additional configuration step to join this application server to a cluster).
  • Reconfigure the application server to connect to a different BMC Atrium DIL server.

Standalone BMC Atrium DIL server (with internal caching database)

Reconfigure the internal BMC Atrium DIL caching database to an external database (requires an additional configuration step if you want this host to join a BMC Atrium DIL cluster).

Standalone BMC Atrium DIL server (with external caching database)

Reconfigure the BMC Atrium DIL caching database to a different database type (requires additional configuration step if you want this host to join a BMC Atrium DIL cluster).

Standalone BMC Dashboards for BSM (with embedded caching database)

  • Reconfigure the authentication type.
  • Reconfigure the BMC Atrium DIL database to be an external database.
  • Reconfigure this installation to be a clustered BMC Dashboards for BSM application server.
  • Reconfigure the application server to connect to a different BMC Atrum DIL server.

If you want to make both of these components clustered, you must perform manual steps to move data so that the components are installed on separate computers, reconfigure the components using the installation utility, then perform a configuration step to add the components to a cluster.

Standalone BMC Dashboards for BSM (with external caching database)

  • Reconfigure the authentication type.
  • Reconfigure the BMC Atrium DIL caching database to be a different database type.
  • Reconfigure this installation to be a clustered BMC Dashboards for BSM application server.
  • Reconfigure the application server to connect to a different BMC Atrium DIL server.

If you want to make both of these components clustered, you must perform manual steps to move data so that the components are installed on separate computers, reconfigure the components using the installation utility, then perform a configuration step to add the components to a cluster.

Clustered BMC Dashboards for BSM application server

  • Reconfigure the authentication type.
  • Reconfigure the application server to connect to a different BMC Atrium DIL server.

Clustered BMC Atrium DIL server

Reconfigure the BMC Atrium DIL caching database to a different database type.
