Creating a stand by installation
A stand by installation allows you to minimize data loss and downtime in the event that the product becomes unstable. This task includes creating two identical installations and regularly backing up the first installation, then recovering the first installation to the second installation. This task is supported for use with a standalone configuration.
To create a standby installation:
- Install BMC Dashboards for BSM as documented in the Installing section.
This installation is referred to as Installation A in this procedure. - Using Installation A, perform any required post-installation tasks.
- Using another computer or virtual machine, install the same version of BMC Dashboards for BSM.
This installation serves as your standby installation and is referred to as Installation B in this procedure. Installation B must use the same authentication type as Installation A. - Using Installation B, perform the same post-installation tasks performed for Installation A.
- Maintain regular backups of the following data from Installation A:
- product installation directory
- product content, using the "To back up the content" procedure under To back up and restore BMC Dashboards for BSM content.
- In the event that Installation A becomes unavailable, restore the product content from Installation A to Installation B using the "To restore the content" procedure under To back up and restore BMC Dashboards for BSM content.
