Configuring communication with BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management

To enable communication between BMC Dashboards for BSM and BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management, you must have successfully completed the installation of BMC Dashboards for BSM and BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management before completing this task. For more information about installing the product, see the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management documentation.

Note

If you configure the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management data source before copying the files to the BMC Atrium Data Integration Layer (BMC Atrium DIL) server host, the data source configuration will fail. After you copy the files to the BMC Atrium DIL host, you must restart the BMC Atrium DIL service and then reconfigure the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management data source.

Copying files to the BMC Atrium DIL Server host

Use the procedure in this section to copy the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management files to the BMC Atrium DIL Server host. If you have installed a BMC Atrium DIL cluster, you must copy files to each node in the BMC Atrium DIL cluster.

Note

Check the Customer Support website at http://www.bmc.com/support_home for updated information about this version. Flashes, technical bulletins, and resolutions on the site contain details about any fixes that were issued for this version after its release.

  1. On the BMC Atrium DIL Server host, stop the BMC Atrium DIL Server service.
For more information about starting and stopping the BMC Atrium DIL Server service, see new-Troubleshooting.
  2. Using the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management installation media, navigate to the PANDashboardAPI.version.zip file that is located within the Integrations directory.
  3. Copy the PANDashboardAPI.version.zip file to the BMC Atrium DIL Server host.
  4. On the BMC Atrium DIL Server host, extract the contents of the PANDashboardAPI.version.zip file to the DashboardsInstallationDirectory\DIL\CIS\apps\common\lib\endorsed directory.

The contents of the zip file are:
    • Apache-LICENSE-2.0.txt
    • log4j.jar
    • pw_server.jar
    • pw_util.jar
    • version.txt
  5. On the BMC Atrium DIL Server host, restart the BMC Atrium DIL Server service.
  6. If you have already configured the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management version 8.5 data source and have just upgraded to version 8.6.x, reconfigure the BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management data source.

Support for in-context launch to BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management

You can now launch BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management from the Service Delivery Details and Business Service Summary pods. In these pods, a cross-launch icon has been added adjacent to the service name so that you can launch BMC ProactiveNet Performance Manager Portal to view more information about the service that is displayed in the pods. For the icon to appear, you must have BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management configured as a data source.

By default, the in-context launch is configured to work with BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management version 8.5, but if you have a different version of BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management, you must update the dashboards.properties file with the URL for the different version. For more information, see the BMC Dashboards for BSM online Help.

The following images show the cross-launch icon available in the two pods.
