Creating a dashboard for the role of a user
Administrators can create a dashboard for the role of the user so that all users that possess that role can view the dashboard. This feature is beneficial in environments with large numbers of users since it eliminates the need to create large numbers of user dashboards.
Role dashboards cannot be modified by the user, and they are represented in the user interface with a lock icon. User dashboards continue to be available. The following areas of the BMC Dashboards for BSM administrator console have been updated to accommodate the addition of this feature:
User Management Tool—This tool has been updated to allow you to view both the role dashboards and user dashboards visible to the user. The role dashboards are indicated by a lock icon in the list. The Add User and Edit User wizards have been updated to display the role dashboards visible to the user, based on the role assigned.
- You can filter the list of users in the User Management tool by using login ID, last name, first name, email address, and role.
The Add wizard has been enhanced so that you can now add multiple LDAP or BMC Atrium SSO users at a time. Use the enhanced user filtering to filter the list of available users, select one or more users, and assign roles and dashboards to the selected users or users.
If you use BMC Dashboards authentication, you can still add only one user at a time.
- The Add and Edit wizards has been enhanced so that you can now see the role dashboards visible to the user on the Assign Roles page, based on the roles that are assigned to the user.
From the User Management tool, you can:
- Add or modify new users
- Assign or remove roles to the users
- Provide access to dashboards (the user will be able to view all the dashboards for which the user account is provided access)
- Dashboard Builder Tool—This tool was previously known as the User Dashboard Builder Tool. In addition to being renamed to Dashboard Builder Tool, this tool has been updated to allow the administrator to select a role or user for which to create a dashboard. The administrator can also choose to copy an existing role or user dashboard for a selected user or role. Role dashboards (indicated by a lock icon) can be copied for a particular user. When a role dashboard is copied for a user, that dashboard is assigned to the user (and not the role), and the dashboard can then be edited. In addition, if you allow your mouse to hover over the lock icon, the tooltip appears to indicate to which role the dashboard belongs. From the Dashboard Builder tool, you can:
- Create or modify dashboards
- Customize layouts
- Add or remove pods
- Assign categories
- Assign roles (all the users to whom the role is assigned will be able to see the dashboard)
- Role Management Tool—This tool has been updated to allow you to view the dashboards and dashboard templates for the role. The Add Role and Edit Role wizards now include a Dashboard Access panel that allows the administrator to select dashboard templates from which are created dashboards for the role. Dashboard templates appear in the list if all the pods in the dashboard template are configured and the pods are available to the role. The following default roles are available:
- Administrator
- IT Supervisor
- Problem Manager
- Service Delivery Manager
- Service Desk Manager
- Service Level Manager
- Service Request Manager
- Service Support Manager
The BMC Dashboards for BSM user console has been updated to display role dashboards in the Dashboard Manager, indicated by a lock icon. The user is not able to modify the role dashboard, but he or she can create a copy of the dashboard and then edit the copy, which is automatically assigned to the user.
