Use case for creating a custom report
This topic provides an example for creating a custom report that contains a chart and a table.
Create a report with the following information:
- Patching trend of the server
- Server Name
- Job Run Date
- Missing Patch Count
- Total Patch Count
- Compliance %
The report should be filtered by Server Name and Operating System.
Perform the following steps:
Log in to TrueSight Server Automation - Data Warehouse. The TrueSight Smart Reporting - Platform Home page appears.
- Click
and click Report.
- From the Select a View list, select Patch Model - Summarized Information.
- In the View pane, expand the folders to view the fields for the report. Drag and drop the following fields in to the Columns field.
Server Name, Year, Quarter, Month, Week of Year, Job Run Start Time, Installed Patch Count, Missing Patch Count, Total Patch Count, Graph Dimension
You can also search for the fields in the View pane.- By default, the value of a numeric field is displayed as aggregated value. Click on the drop-down menu on the Installed Patch Count field and set the Aggregation to None. Perform this step for Missing Patch Count and Total Patch Count.
- Click Column Formatting
in the main Formatting bar in order to open the formatting menu for the columns.
- Select the Server Name field and toggle the Suppress Duplicates field to remove the duplicate entries from the report. Perform this step for Year, Quarter, Month, Week of Year fields.
- Select the Job Run Start Time field and select the Date Format as dd/MMM/YYYY.
- To filter the report by Operating System and Server Name, drag and drop the following fields in to the Filters section.
Server Name , OS Name - To find the percentage of installed patch count, click on the drop-down menu on the Installed Patch Count field and select Advanced Function.
- In the Select Function list, select Analysis and Percentage Against Column. In the Column list, select Total Patch Count.
- Click Save.
- Click Column Formatting
in the main Formatting bar. Select % of Installed Patch Count and in the Suffix field, add %.
- Click Design.
In the Filters list, click
next to the OS Name and select Change Operand > Equal To.
- In the Filters list, click
next to the Server Name and select Change Operand > Equal To and Entry Style > Drop Down.
- In the Filters list, click
and select Format.
- Select Server Name filter and click Specify Parent Filter.
- In the Parent Filter list, select OS Name. Toggle the Dependent Values and Dependent Display fields.
- Click Submit.
- Click GO.
- Click Charts. This displays the dimensions (For example, Server Name, Year, Month) and the metrics (Missing Patch Count, Total Patch Count, % of Installed Patch Count) which you can use to create the chart.
- Click Auto Chart and then click Select Chart Type to open the Select Chart pane. Select Line to use as an output for your trend report. Alternatively, click
in the upper right corner.
- Drag and drop the Graph Dimension field to the Horizontal Axis. Drag and drop the Missing Patch Count and % of Installed Patch Count to the Vertical Axis.
- Click Series
in the main Formatting bar in order to open the formatting menu for the series. You can define the custom style for the series. You can also display a shape at each data point on the line.
- Click Axis
in the main Formatting bar in order to open the formatting menu for the axis. You can define the custom style for the axis. You can also rotate the axis labels.
- Click Publish. In the Save Report window, enter a name and description for your report. In the Report Access area, select Public or Private.
- Click Save to generate and view the report.
- In the generated report, in the Filters box, you can see the filters from the filter group that you selected. Select a filter value and click GO. You can see the filtered data in the report.
