File selection tree

Lets you select the CSV files for importing servers or adding the managed servers to a server group:

Importing servers

A CSV file containing the list of servers you want to import. To create a server import text file using a comma-separated values (CSV) format, use the following syntax:

  • The first line of the file must contain the column header Name followed by optional comma-separated property names for any properties you want to set for each server. Any property name you include in this import file must already exist in the Property Dictionary. For information about how to add a property to the property dictionary, see Managing-properties-using-the-Property-Dictionary.
  • Subsequent lines of the file must contain valid host names for each server you want to add, followed by optional comma-separated property values for each server.
Click here to see samples of server import files.

The first example shows the simplest syntax — you simply list the host names of the servers you want to add:

Name
host1
host2
host3

The following example shows how to set the Customer property for each server:

Name,Customer
host1,CustomerA
host2,CustomerB
host3,CustomerC

If you need to include spaces in a property value, you must enclose the property value in double quotes:

Name,Customer
host1,"Customer A"
host2,"Customer B"
host3,"Customer C"

Adding the managed servers to a server group

A CSV file containing the list of managed servers that you want to assign to a server group. To create a server import text file using a CSV format, use the following syntax:

  • The first line of the file must contain the column header Name.
  • Subsequent lines of the file must contain valid imported server name for each server you want to assign.

Click here to see a sample of the server import file.

The following sample file assigns the existing two managed servers to the server group.

Name
ManagedServer_Austin
ManagedServer_Huston

File Encoding

The type of character encoding that should be used for exported data, such as UTF8 or UTF16.

Update Intrinsic Properties

Instructs the system to check the values of the servers' intrinsic properties.

If you do not select this option, the servers are added to the list of managed servers but the system does not contact the agent on each server and retrieve the server's intrinsic properties. As a result, these servers are not operational. To make them operational later, you can select each server and then select Verify from the pop-up menu or run an Update Server Properties Job on those servers.

If agent does not exist, install using Agent Installer Job

Check to instruct the system to install agent on the imported servers. Then click Browse g_V95_BrowseIcon.gifto navigate to the Agent Installer Job that installs the agents. For more information, see Creating-an-Agent-Installer-Job.

Add only existing servers to the group

Select this option if you want to assign managed servers included in a CSV file to an existing server group.
Important: When you select this option, the other options in this panel are disabled and no other actions are performed.
