Running a Component Discovery Job

Before you can run a Compliance Job based on any of the Compliance Content component templates, you must have components against which the Compliance Job will run. To discover components that satisfy the signature of any specific Compliance Content component template, you must create and run a Component Discovery Job. Signatures in Compliance Content component templates are designed to discover all the components that run a specific operating system and sometimes a specific version of the operating system.

To begin the creation of a Component Discovery Job, right-click a specific Compliance Content component template, and select Discover.

For the full instructions, see Creating-Component-Discovery-Jobs.

As an alternative to running the Component Discovery Job, you can choose to authorize any subsequent Compliance Job to perform automatic component discovery, so that components are generated later on, just before they are analyzed for compliance.

Before executing a discovery operation for the CIS - Windows Server 2003 for Domain Controllers template, ensure that you have set the DOMAIN target-level property to DC for all the domain controller servers. For more information about this property, see Reviewing-properties-in-the-Server-built-in-property-class.
