Using silent mode to install the Network Shell (Linux and UNIX)

You can perform an unattended (silent) installation or upgrade of the Network Shell on a Linux or UNIX computer.

Note

To use the BLCLI or the blcred utility, you must install the TrueSight Server Automation Console. For information, see Using-silent-mode-to-install-the-TrueSight-Server-Automation-Console-Windows.
If you want to run Network Shell so that it communicates with a Network Shell Proxy Server and uses TrueSight Server Automation's single sign-on capabilities, then you need to install the Application Server along with Network Shell. See Using-silent-mode-to-install-TrueSight-Server-Automation-components-Linux-or-UNIX.

Before you begin

Linux platforms on which you plan to install the Network Shell must have the libtermcap.so.2 shared library installed. Install the shared library before installing the Network Shell. For more information, see Requirement for installing the Application Server or Network Shell on Linux.
To use silent mode for an installation, you create a file of installation defaults (variables that control how a silent installation on Linux or UNIX behaves). Then you run the NSH installation program. You can use the same file of installation defaults to upgrade the Network Shell.

Using any server, create a text file named nsh-install-defaults in the /tmp directory. The file must belong to root.
In the file, create an entry for each variable you want to set. Then for each variable you enter in the file, create another entry to export the variable. For example:
COMPONENT_CHECKED=3
export COMPONENT_CHECKED
NSH_INSTALL_SKEL=1
export NSH_INSTALL_SKEL
Note
Ensure that the file is in UNIX format (a format in which a line feed, not a carriage return, specifies the end of a line). Otherwise, installation fails.
The following table describes how to set each possible variable:
Save /tmp/nsh-install-defaults.
To run the installer, enter the following command:
sh <NSHversion-platform> -silent
For example:
sh NSH86-SOL10-SPARC.sh -silent
