Checking for the existence of software using Discovery Jobs

To check for the existence of software applications on your servers, run Discovery Jobs based on signatures for which you specify relevant software applications. This involves the following tasks:

  1. Create a signature within the relevant component template, basing the signature on the existence of specific software applications at the target servers.
To begin this task, open the component template and click the Discover tab. Create a basic condition that checks for the existence or number of occurrences (a cardinality condition) of a configuration object (or asset) that you choose from the discovered software applications. For example:
"Atrium Discovery.Software:/DiscoveredSoftware/Oracle Database Server 10.2.0.1.0" exists
For more information, see Editing-a-component-template and Creating-a-component-signature.
  2. Create a Component Discovery Job for the component template in which you defined your signature, and run the job on the relevant target servers. This job associates components only to those servers that comply with the signature.
To begin the Component Discovery Job, right-click the component template and select Discover.
    For more information, see Creating-and-modifying-Component-Discovery-Jobs.
