Using silent mode to install the Network Shell (Windows)
You can perform an unattended (silent) installation of the Network Shell on Windows.
If you have an earlier version of Network Shell installed, see Using-silent-mode-to-upgrade-the-Network-Shell-Windows.
If the host computer on which you are installing the Network Shell has:
- A supported version of Perl installed — The Network Shell installation automatically installs the Network Shell Perl module. (For information about the Perl versions that TrueSight Server Automation supports, see Perl support.)
- An unsupported version of Perl installed — The installation copies files that allow you to install the Perl module after you have installed the supported version of Perl.
Before you begin
- To perform the Network Shell installation, you must have local administrator privileges.
- On 64-bit Windows systems, confirm that the <WINDIR>\SysWOW64 directory contains a copy of the chcp.com file. The installer uses this file to set the code page of standard output (stdout). You can obtain the file from a 32-bit version of Windows.
- Create a response file for the installation by installing the Network Shell and recording your responses to the installation program prompts.
To install the Network Shell in silent mode
- Copy the installation program (NSHversion-platform.exe) to the Windows system where you plan to create the response file. Put the program in the <WINDIR>\Temp folder (where <WINDIR> is typically C:\winnt or C:\Windows). The 32-bit installer can be used for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows environments.
- At the command line, change (cd) to <WINDIR>\Temp.
To create the response file enter the following command:
<NSHversion-platform.exe> -a -r -f1<WINDIR>\Temp\<silentInstallFilePath.iss>
where
<silentInstallFilePath.iss> is the name of response file that you are creating. The installation program opens.
- Perform an installation of the Network Shell, selecting your options. The options are recorded in the .iss file.
- To run the silent installation, enter the following command at the command line:
<NSHversion-platform.exe> /s /f1C:\Temp\<silentInstallFilePath.iss>
where
<NSHversion-platform.exe> is the name of the NSH installer.
<silentInstallFilePath.iss> is the name of the response file you created.
For example:
D:\BladeLogic\8.6\NSH86-WIN32.exe /s /f1C:\Temp\8_6NSH.iss
Ensure that no space exists between the /fl option and the .iss file name.
