Getting started with CentOS patch analysis
This topic explains the process of using TrueSight Server Automation to analyze the CentOS systems in your environment to verify whether they require patches and updates. You can use TrueSight Server Automation for analysis, download, and deployment of patches on the CentOS systems.
Patch management for CentOS
TrueSight Server Automation supports patch management for CentOS sytems using the following methods: Out-of-the-box patching solution and VPC-based patching solution.
Perform the following tasks to start patch management of the CentOS systems using the out-of-the-box patching solution:
| Step | Related documentation |
---|---|---|
1 | Create a user role with the required authorizations for patch management. A user who is a member of the BLAdmins role can perform all the patching-related tasks. | |
2 | Configure the global catalog parameters. | |
3 | Download the metadata and payload using the offline downloader utility. | |
4 | Create a patch catalog. | |
5 | Create a Patch Analysis job. | |
6 | Perform the patch remediation. |
Where to go from here
See Walkthrough-Basic-patch-remediation for a description of how to package and deploy patches to servers requiring remediation. The walkthrough describes a process for Windows, but the process is the same for Linux.
