Troubleshooting the Health Dashboard and Value Dashboard

The following questions may help you resolve problems encountered while administering the TrueSight Server Automation Dashboard.

What is the reason for the error that is displayed after you click the TSSA-DW link on the Dashboard?

Either you did not specify the TrueSight Smart Reporting for Server Automation during installation or a connection could not be established to the TrueSight Smart Reporting for Server Automation server or the reports data warehouse.

If no TrueSight Smart Reporting for Server Automation server has been specified and you click the TSSA-DW link, an error message is displayed.

“Either you do not have a TSSA-DW server installed or the TSSA-DW server url is not configured. Specify TSSA-DW server url using the command blasadmin set AppServer TSSADWServerURL <protocol://tssadw_server:port> to view the TSSA-DW login page.”

To specify a TrueSight Smart Reporting for Server Automation server, use the blasadmin utility to run the following command:

set AppServer TSSADWServerURL <protocol://tssadw_server:port/>

What do the red, yellow, green, and gray dots on the home page signify?

Red dot—An error has occurred for at least one of the parameters needed to obtain information for a section. Buttons on the left of the dashboard provide detailed information about each section. Click the button for the section with the red dot to display detailed information. Parameters that are causing errors are highlighted in red.

Yellow dot—At least one of the parameters needed to provide information for that section requires attention. Click the button at left for the section with the yellow dot. The dashboard displays detailed information. Parameters requiring attention are highlighted in yellow.

Green dot—No parameters for that section are experiencing errors.

Gray dot—BladeLogic Dashboard is not able to collect data for this section.

Where do I find older reports?

Each time you access the Health Dashboard, TrueSight Server Automation collects data and generates a report. You can find older reports on the File Server Server under the <file server root>/dashboard/reports folder.

How long are reports stored?

Old reports are stored until you purge them manually.

How much space is required to store reports?

Each run generates a report folder of 2 MB or less. The actual size depends on the environment.

Can I export report results?

The BladeLogic Dashboard presents its results as HTML pages. You can export or print results just as you would any other HTML page.

How are the Health Dashboard reports retrieved from the file server ?

When you access the Health Dashboard, the Application Server that you are connected to copies the latest dashboard report from <file server root>/dashboard/reports to <installDirectory>/NSH/br/deployments/default/tomcat/webapps/dashboard/WEB-INF/reports. This connection happens as the internal System:System role user.

Do security settings in Internet Explorer affect the display of the dashboards?

The Internet Explorer XSS filter scrambles the Cognos search path within the Health Dashboard or Value Dashboard URL and renders it invalid. As a result, the Health Dashboard and Value Dashboard fail to open in the Internet Explorer (IE) web browser on Windows, and the error message "The search path... is invalid" is issued.

Workaround:

Perform the following configuration changes in your IE browser:

  • Add the TSSA-DW URL for the Health Dashboard or Value Dashboard to IE's list of trusted sites.
  • Customize the Scripting settings of the Trusted Sites zone. Set Enable XSS Filter to Disable.

After making these configuration changes, restart the IE browser.
