Manually creating a Virtual Guest Package

For VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, IBM, Solaris, Citrix XenServer, and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization environments, you can create the VGP manually. This topic includes the following sections:

To create the Virtual Guest Package manually

1. From the Depot folder, right-click the depot folder where you want to add the VGP. From the pop-up menu, select New > Virtual Guest Package and then the virtualization platform type for the package (VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, IBM, Solaris, Citrix XenServer, RHEV).
2. On the Virtual Guest Package dialog box, enter the following:
   • Name — Enter a name for the package.
   • Description — Enter a brief description of the package.
   • Member of — Browse to the folder in the Depot where you want the VGP to be created.
   • VM Guest Package type — Do one of the following, based on the virtualization platform:
     • For VMware, choose VMware Virtual Machine to configure the package and create a new virtual machine, or select VMware Virtual Machine/Template Clone to base it on an existing template.
     • For Microsoft Hyper-V, choose HyperV Bare Metal to configure the package and create a new virtual machine, or select HyperV Template Based to base it on an existing template. If you selected the template based option, perform the following steps:
       1. Ensure that the template is created according to the instructions in Creating-Generation-1-Virtual-Machine-Templates-on-SCVMM or Creating-Generation-2-Virtual-Machine-Templates-on-SCVMM.
       2. Click the Browse button to choose a template on which to base the new virtual machine.
       3. Select the server that contains the template.
       4. Select the template from the displayed list, and click OK.
     • For IBM, choose the partition type for which to configure the package and create the new partition. Choose AIX or Linux Partition to create an LPAR or VIOS Partition to create a VIO server partition, used for I/O resource sharing for the frame.
     • For Solaris, choose Non Global Zone to configure the package and create a non-global zone.
     • For Citrix XenServer, perform the following steps:
       1. Click the Browse button to choose a Citrix XenServer template, custom template, or virtual machine on which to base the new virtual machine.
       2. On the Select Citrix XenServer Template dialog box box, select the server that contains the template or virtual machine.
       3. Select the virtual machine or template type, either a XenServer-provided template, custom template, or virtual machine.
       4. Select the virtual machine or template from the displayed list, and click OK.
     • For RHEV Manager, choose Baremetal to configure the package and create a new virtual machine, or select Template Based to base it on an existing template.
   • VMware VC Template (VMware only) — Browse to the location of a template on which this VGP will be based.
   • Template Name (RHEV/ HyperV only) — Browse to the location of a template on which this VGP will be based.
3. Click Next.
4. On the Permissions panel, enter the permissions for the VGP. The Permissions panel is an access control list granting roles access to this VGP. Access to all objects, including the sharing of objects between roles, is controlled through ACLs. See Virtual Guest Package permissions to ensure that your role has the required permissions to create a VGP for a specific platform.
5. After completing the last step of the wizard, click Finish.
   A dialog box appears, indicating that the package is being saved to the Depot. After the VGP is saved, you may want to use the Virtual Guest Package editor to modify the VGP.
