Upgrading the TrueSight Server Automation Console on Windows

This topic provides instructions for upgrading the TrueSight Server Automation Console on Windows from a previous version.

Important information about upgrading the console

The console upgrade automatically upgrades the Network Shell.

You can choose whether to upgrade the console or install a new instance of it in addition to the existing one.

Note

In most cases, the Application Server and the console must be upgraded to the same version, whether they are located on the same computer or different computers.

For certain consoles, you can choose not to upgrade. For more information, see To enable communication with clients of an earlier version of TrueSight Server Automation.

To perform a silent upgrade of the console, see Using-silent-mode-to-upgrade-the-TrueSight-Server-Automation-Console-on-Windows.

Before you begin

  • If the TrueSight Server Automation Console is on the same machine as the Application Server, do the following before upgrading the console:
    • Stop the RSCD agent and the Application Server.
    • Upgrade the Application Server.
  • To perform this upgrade, you must have local Administrator privileges.
  • Before you install the TrueSight Server Automation Console, make sure that port 12333 (TCP) is not being used. Installation of the console requires use of this port. If the port is already in use, the installer shows a progress bar but exits before launching and the installation fails.
  • New in 8.9.02 Ensure that Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Update 3 is installed on the server. For more information, see Installing-the-RSCD-agent-Windows.

To upgrade the console

Use any of the following methods to upgrade the Console.

  • Automatic upgrade

The Console is upgraded automatically if it is running on a Windows machine and if the TrueSight Server Automation Console Upgrade Service is installed on that machine.

For more information, see TrueSight Server Automation Console Automatic Upgrade: Windows only.

  •  Manual upgrade

If you do not have the TrueSight Server Automation Console Upgrade Service installed on your Windows machine, perform the following steps to manually upgrade the Console:

    1. Navigate to the directory that contains installation files for TrueSight Server Automation Console and run the installation program. (Installation program names follow the convention: TSSACONSOLE<version>-<platform>.)
    2. On the Multi-instance selection window, select the instance of the console that you want to upgrade.
    3. On the User inputs window, accept the default selections and click Next.
    4. If you clear the TrueSight Server Automation Console Upgrade Service check box, the TrueSight Server Automation Console Upgrade Service is not installed. This service is required for automatically upgrading the TrueSight Server Automation Console when you upgrade the Application Server to later releases, see TrueSight-Server-Automation-Console-Automatic-Upgrade-Windows-only.
    5. On the Installation preview window, click Install.

Note

If you stopped the RSCD Agent before upgrading the console, restart it before you proceed to the next process.
