Exporting TrueSight Server Automation objects
You can export system objects from TrueSight Server Automation to a file system. The standard export format only allows the exported objects to be imported into the same version of TrueSight Server Automation the object was exported from. For example if the object was exported from 8.9.01 then you could only import it into another 8.9.01 system. The Version Neutral format, which applies to some object types as noted in the documentation, allows export and import between different TrueSight Server Automation versions.
If you export an object that includes references to network-based objects, the referenced objects are not exported. Only referenced objects stored on the file server are exported. For example, if a BLPackage includes network-based software packages, those packages are not exported. Only the references to those packages are exported.
To export an object
- Select the export objects by using one of the following methods:
- In the Component, Component Templates, Depot, Jobs, or Serversfolder, select one or more of the following:
- BLPackages
- Component templates
- Depot software
Files - Jobs (any type with the following exceptions):
- Deregister Configuration Objects
- Distribute Configuration Objects
- Patching (all operating systems)
- Provision
- Upgrade Model Objects
- Virtual Guest
- Network Shell Scripts
- Smart groups
- Snapshots (that is, a job run of a Snapshot Job)
- System packages
- Select Configuration > Config Object Dictionary. Then, select one or more configuration files or extended objects in the left pane of the Config Object Dictionary.
- In the Component, Component Templates, Depot, Jobs, or Serversfolder, select one or more of the following:
- Right-click and select Export from the pop-up menu.
The Export window opens. - If you chose a component template for export in step 1, choose between the standard export and the version-neutral export.
The remaining steps in this section describe the standard export process. For a description of the version-neutral export process, see Exporting-templates-using-a-version-neutral-mechanism. - For Save to, enter the path or use the hierarchical tree to select the directory where you want to save exported objects.
Specify objects you want to exclude from the export by selecting any of the following:

Snapshot JobsTo reduce the size of the object being exported, exclude referenced objects.
When you exclude an object from an export, you must map the exported object to a comparable object on the importing system unless the automapping mechanism can do so automatically.- If the object being exported is a BLPackage, or it refers to a BLPackage (such as a component template), and you want to convert soft links in the BLPackage to hard links, check Convert BLPackage soft links to hard links.
By default, soft links are retained when you export and then import a BLPackage. - If the object being exported is a configuration file or extended object that references a custom grammar and you want to export the grammar with the object, check Include referenced grammar files.
This option only appears if the object you plan to export is a configuration file or extended object, or if the object refers to a configuration file or extended object. If a configuration file or extended object references a built-in grammar file, that grammar file is never exported even if you check this option. - Click Export.
A dialog box appears, indicating that the export has begun. In some situations, this operation can take time. The dialog box provides options for running the operation in the background. For information about this dialog box and running background operations, see Running-background-operations.
When the export is complete, a new directory is created in the directory you specified in step 4. The directory has the same name as the object you plan to export. If you are exporting a configuration file or extended object, the operating system is appended to the object name, such as objectName_Windows.
