Customizing keystroke combinations

You can customize keystroke combinations to meet your needs.

The system uses standard keystroke combinations for common commands. For example, Ctrl+C is the same as choosing Edit > Copy. You can customize keystroke combinations using the Preferences window.

Note

When you are interacting with dialogs or windows in the TrueSight Server Automation Console, all of the keys function in the global menu context. For example, if you are using one of the new object wizards, the key bindings reflect the global menu key bindings.
When you open a text editor, all the key bindings function in the context of the specific editor. For example, if you open a Network Shell Script file, the key bindings are specific to the ShellEd content editor.

To customize keystroke combinations

  1. Choose Window > Preferences. Expand General and click Keys.
  2. Select the default keyboard scheme or EMACS, the Apple MacIntosh editor keyboard command scheme.
  3. To filter the list of commands, enter one or more characters. For example, enter mov to narrow the list of available commands to Move Lines Down, Move Lines Up, Move Resources, and so on.
    To see all commands again, click Clear g_v95_clearFilter.gifto clear the filter.
  4. Select the command you want to modify from the list.
    Command details are populated to the editing area below the command list.
  5. Enter the keystroke combinations you want to associate with the command in the Binding field. The left arrow lets you select Backspace, Tab, and Shift-Tab.
  6. In the When field, select the circumstances in which you want the keystroke combinations to be active: Comparing in an Editor, In Console view, In Windows, and so on.
    The Conflicts window lets you know if and when that keystroke combination is already assigned to a command.
  7. Select one or all of the following actions:
    • To clear some of the default filter actions or restore filters, select Filters.
    • To save the keystroke commands as a .csv file to a location other than the system folder, select Export.
    • To remove key bindings you have made or changed, select Restore Defaults.
    • To activate new or changed keystroke combinations you have made, select Apply.
  8. Click OK to exit the Preferences window. The console automatically saves your preferences.
