Add Depot Software (Hotfix) - Add Software

The Add Software panel lets you choose the patches or service packs you want to package as hotfixes. You can specify multiple patches and service packs, if necessary.

For instructions about using this panel, see Adding-a-hotfix-to-the-Depot.

When specifying a hotfix to add, you can choose how the hotfix is stored until deployment. You can copy the hotfix to the file server, or you can specify a network location for the hotfix. During a Deploy Job, the hotfix can be copied directly from that network location to a staging directory on the target, or the target can mount/map the source location and install the hotfix directly from there. Using a network location gives you the option of maintaining only one copy of a source file. Network locations also let you avoid copying a hotfix to a staging area on the target server, thus reducing the disk space used on the target.

Note

If you are packaging patches or service packs for a large network-based deployment, consider the capabilities of your network and the server being mounted or mapped. When you deploy to a large number of target servers, the agents on those servers all need to mount or map the host where source files are located.

The Add Software panel provides identifying information for patches and service packs, and it establishes the install and uninstall command. Typically, a default install and uninstall command is automatically provided for each patch and service pack. If you specify the source file for a patch or service pack (rather than downloading from a trusted source), you may have to edit the default install and uninstall command that the panel provides.
