Enrolling cloud servers

You can manage servers that are hosted in the public cloud data centers using TrueSight Server Automation installed in an on-premises or a private cloud environment. For this server management, the servers to be managed must be enrolled in TrueSight Server Automation.

Important

TrueSight Server Automation supports managing target servers in the cloud environment. Though it is qualified only for AWS and Azure public clouds, it is expected to function with other cloud service providers as well.

To enroll these servers automatically using the Smart Agent capabilities, do the following:

Tasks

Related documentation

1

Plan for a new deployment

Ensure that your cloud environment meets the system requirements.

2

Download the installation files

  1. Download the RSCD agent installer files. The Smart Agent is packaged with the RSCD agent installer.
  2. Download the Smart Hub installer files.

3

Install the Smart Hub and Smart Hub Gateway

Install the Smart Hub on any of the servers in the cloud. The Smart Hub installer includes the Smart Hub Gateway component.

4

Configure the Smart Hub and Smart Hub Gateway

Configure the Smart Hub and Smart Hub Gateway to enable the Application Server communication with the target servers.

5

Define the network routing rules based on the cloud-specific server properties

Configure the network routing rules to instruct the Application Server to use the Smart Hub Gateway proxy that you configured.

6

(For Linux targets) Configure the nsh_install_defaults file

Configure the nsh_install_defaults file to define the cloud-specific server properties.

7

Install the RSCD Agent on the target servers

Install the RSCD Agent on the target servers in the cloud. If you have Cloud Security installed in your environment, you can use its capabilities to deploy the RSCD Agent on multiple instances in AWS.

8

Verify the enrollment and Smart Agent status

Verify that the target servers are enrolled correctly, and also check the Smart Agent properties to know the status of RSCD and Smart Agents.

What's next

The Smart Agent that is installed and configured on each target performs the following tasks:

  • Send server enrollment requests to the Smart Hub
  • Send heartbeat requests to the Smart Hub
  • Update the state of decommissioned servers

To customize the settings such as enrollment and heartbeat interval, see Managing-the-Smart-Agent.

To customize the Smart Hub parameters, see Managing-the-Smart-Hub.
