Creating or modifying an instance of a property class

You can create or modify an instance of a property class. An instance is a set of properties and property values associated with a property class.

Before you begin

Often this procedure is used to create an instance of a custom property class or an instance of any of the following property classes or subclasses:

• DataStore
• DeployOptions
• ProxyServer

Instances of property classes are often used in conjunction with property class properties. (A property class property is a reference to a property class.) To define property values for a property class property, you must first define an instance of the property class and then assign values to the properties in that property class instance. To create or modify an instance

1. Choose Configuration > Property Dictionary View.
2. Navigate to the property class or subclass for which you want to create an instance.
3. Click the Instances tab.
4. Do one of the following:
   • To create an instance of a property class, click Add New Property Set Instance . The New Instance wizard opens, displaying the General panel.
   • To modify an existing instance of a property class, select that instance in the right pane and click Edit Property Set Instance . The Modify Instance window appears. This window and the New Instance wizard differ in that you display panels by selecting tabs instead of stepping through a wizard.

5. On the General panel, for Name, enter the name of the instance. For Description, you can optionally provide descriptive text.

   Note

   The NAME and DESCRIPTION properties of a custom property class refer to the name and description of an instance of the custom property class. For example, suppose a custom property class includes a property called LEVEL and the value of that property is defined as NAME. (In other words, the value of the property is a parameter referring to the NAME property.) If you create an instance of the custom property class and the instance is named QA1, then the value of the LEVEL property for this instance is QA1.

6. To set values for a property in the custom property class, double-click the property. The Set Property Value dialog box opens. Enter a value for the property and click OK. For more information, see Setting-values-for-system-object-properties.
7. Click Next or select the Permissions tab to display the Permissions panel. Use this panel to define an access control list (ACL) for the instance. The Permissions panel is an access control list granting roles access to this instance. Access to all objects in TrueSight Server Automation, including the sharing of objects between roles, is controlled through ACLs. 8. Click Finish.
