Downloading all patches using the HP-UX Patch Downloader

Use this procedure to download all patches using the HP-UX Patch Downloader.

  1. Check the configuration definitions in the configuration.properties file, as described in Configuring-the-offline-HP-UX-Patch-Downloader.
In particular, if you are running the HP-UX Patch Downloader for the first time, ensure that the DOWNLOAD_CATALOG parameter is set to a value of yes in the configuration.properties file.
  2. Open a command line window and navigate to the directory where you stored the downloader (as described in Installing the HP-UX Patch Downloader).
  3. Run the relevant script, depending on your operating system:

    • (UNIX) sh HPUXContentDownloader.sh
    • (Microsoft Windows) HPUXContentDownloader.bat

As the script runs, provide the input that you are prompted for:

    • HP credentials (user and password)
    • Whether to use an existing swa_catalog.xml file from a previous run (if relevant) or to download a new one
    • Whether to use a proxy, and if yes, the proxy settings — user, password, host, and port.

    Note

Alternatively, if you want to run the downloader in silent (unattended) mode, include the following parameters in the command that you use to run the script:

    -Silent -hpUser <HPusername> -hpPass <HPPassword>

And, if you want to use a proxy, also the following parameters:

    -proxyUser <ProxyUserName> -proxyPass <ProxyPassword>
    -proxyHost <ProxyHostName> -proxyPort <ProxyPortNumber>

For <ProxyUserName>, if a domain exists, the user name should be <domainname\username>.

The following files are created on execution:

    • hpuxAll.log: Metadata for all patches contained in one file.
    • hpuxFilteredDetails.log: Detailed metadata for the patches selected according to filter conditions defined in the configuration.properties file.
    • swa_catalog.xml: List provided by the vendor containing metadata for all patches released by HP-UX.
    • latestRun.txt: File used internally by the HP-UX Patch Downloader containing the date of the latest patch found during execution. If a date is not defined for the FILTER_FROM_DATE parameter in the configuration.properties file, the date defined here is used instead.
    • download.contents: Content details for all downloaded patches including absolute path with respect to the HP-UX patches folder.
  4. Copy all patch bundles and HP-UX patches from the defined workspace to removable storage.
  5. In the production environment, store copies of the following files:
    • Copy the swa_catalog.xml file from the removable storage to the SWA working directory on the SWA Server.
    • Copy the patch bundles and HP-UX patches from the removable storage to <SWA working directory>/common/cache/HP-UX patches
