Symbolic links in snapshots and audits

When taking snapshots or performing audits, TrueSight Server Automation supports symbolic links for any part of the file system. If you choose to perform a snapshot or audit on a symbolic link, the system traverses that link and takes a snapshot or audits the file or directory to which the symbolic link points.

For example, if /opt/application/my_sym_link is specified as a part in a Component Template and is a symbolic link to /opt/myapp/linkdestination (where linkdestination is the real application directory), then the Snapshot Job will capture a Snapshot of the contents of /opt/myapp/linkdestination.

Warning

Note

Ensure that the symbolic link is not a dead link. For example, in a path such as /opt/dir1/symlink/dir2/dir3, ensure that symlink is not a dead link, so that dir3 is traversed.

When using symbolic links, be careful not to specify the symbolic link low down in the file system path, as the use of symbolic links could result in very large snapshots or audit results.
