Installing agents using the Agent Installer Job

You can install agents while you are adding servers to the system, or after you have added servers.

There are two approaches to installing agents:

Important

Use the RSCD<TSSAversion>-RHEL8-S390x installer for the RHEL 8.x zSeries S390x installation. If you have an existing agent bundle for zSeries, you need to create a new agent bundle for the RHEL 8.x zSeries S390x installation.

Installing agents as an integrated process while adding or importing servers

  1. Start the Add New Server wizard or the Import Servers wizard. For more information, see Adding-a-server-to-the-system or Importing-servers-into-the-system.
  2. On the Add New Server - Properties panel or the Import Servers - Import Servers panel, check If agent does not exist, install using Agent Installer Job.
  3. Click Browse to navigate to the Agent Installer Job you want to use to install the agent. For more information, see Creating-an-Agent-Installer-Job.

Running the Unified Agent Installer or an Agent Installer Job after you add servers

Before you run the Agent Installer Job, for Windows, set the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\AutoShareServer registry key to 1 on target servers.

  1. Start the Add New Server wizard or the Import Servers wizard. For more information, see Adding-a-server-to-the-system or Importing-servers-into-the-system.
  2. On the Add New Server - Properties panel or the Import Servers - Import Servers panel, do NOT check If agent does not exist, install using Agent Installer Job. This adds the servers to the system without installing agents.
  3. At a later time, when you want to install agents on these agentless servers, do one of the following:
    • Run the Unified Agent Installer to target the agentless devices (see Running-the-Unified-Agent-Installer). The Unified Agent Installer wizard guides you through all steps necessary to install agents, including creation of an Agent Installer Job. You can run the Agent Installer Job immediately or schedule it to run later.
    • Create or modify the objects necessary to install agents (see Creating-objects-for-agent-installation ). One of the objects you must create is an Agent Installer Job, which targets the agentless on which you want to install agents. (For information about this job, see Creating-an-Agent-Installer-Job). Execute the Agent Installer Job to install agents.
