Adding agent installer packages to the Depot

Add an installer package to the Depot for any type of agent that you want to install automatically using an Agent Installer Job.

Note

If you installed TrueSight Server Automation using the Unified Product Installer (UPI), the agent installation files are already pre-installed in the Depot at /Depot/BMC Maintenance/Agent Installers/.

The agent installer for the Solaris platform requires additional configuration before first use. See Additional information for Solaris installation packages.

Before you begin

  • The following table provides the names of the files to add for the various platforms on which you can install agents:

    Target platform

    Package to add to Depot

    IBM AIX

    RSCD<version>-AIX32.bff

    Linux 32-bit

    RSCD<version>-LIN32.rpm

    Linux 64-bit

    RSCD<version>-LIN64.rpm

    Linux 64-bit S390

    RSCD<version>-LIN64-S390.rpm

    Solaris 10/11 SPARC

    RSCD<version>-SOL10-SPARC-LOCAL.gz

    Solaris 10/11 x86

    RSCD<version>-SOL10-X86-SPARC-LOCAL.gz

    Microsoft Windows 64-bit

    RSCD<version>-WIN64.msi

    Warning

To install Solaris agents, you must use Solaris packages, which are available in .gz format from the EPD. Before you can add one of these Solaris packages to the Depot, you must decompress it (using the gunzip command or the equivalent). Attempting to create a Solaris package from one of these .gz files directly does not work.

To add agent installer packages to the Depot

  1. Use the Add Depot Software wizard to add an agent installation package to the Depot. To launch the wizard, navigate to a depot folder, right-click, and select New > Software > software_type where software_type refers to one of the following platform-specific types:
    • MSI Package
    • Solaris Package
    • RPM
    • AIX Package
  2. Use the wizard to navigate to a directory containing the installation files you obtained from the BMC EPD site or the Depot.
For more information about using the Add Depot Software wizard, see Adding-software-to-the-Depot.
In the Select Installable Sources window, make sure Upload source to File Server is selected. This is the default and is required for running an Agent Installer Job.

Additional information for Windows installation packages

When you install a Windows agent, you use an MSI installation package by default. For more information about installing a Windows agent, see Installing-the-RSCD-agent-Windows. Agent Installer Jobs perform an unattended installation of agent packages. To set up an unattended installation of an MSI package, see Using-silent-mode-to-install-an-RSCD-agent-Windows.

Additional information for Linux installation packages

For more information about installing the agent with an RPM installation package, see Using-RPM-to-install-NSH-or-the-RSCD-agent. Agent Installer Jobs perform an unattended installation of agent packages. To set up an unattended installation of an RPM installation package, see Configuring-the-installation-parameters-for-the-NSH-or-the-RSCD-agent.

Additional information for AIX installation packages

For more information about installing the agent with an AIX installation package, see Using-AIX-BFF-to-install-NSH-or-the-RSCD-agent. Note that you cannot change the default installation path or other local settings for AIX agents.

Additional information for Solaris installation packages

For more information about installing the agent with a Solaris installation package, see Using-the-Solaris-SVR4-package-installer-to-install-NSH-and-the-RSCD-agent. Agent Installer Jobs perform an unattended installation of agent packages. To set up an unattended installation of a Solaris installation package, see Configuring-the-installation-parameters-for-the-NSH-or-the-RSCD-agent.

If you are adding a Solaris package to the Depot, you must perform the following additional step in the Support Files section of the Add Software panel:
Edit the _INSTALL_ADMINFILE parameter to point to the location of a valid admin file. On a Solaris server, you can obtain an admin file from /var/sadm/install. See the sample admin file in To silently install the Network Shell or RSCD agent
