User goals and features
This topic provides a list of the common types of functional roles of users who use this product, and how they interact with the product.
There are many user roles involved in the deployment, operation, and management of TrueSight Server Automation. Your company may employ the roles as described below, consolidate them into fewer roles, or divide them into roles with more granular responsibilities. Or, your company may employ other roles not listed below, such as Developer, Quality Assurance, or Infrastructure Manager.
The following table describes the typical user roles for the product:
Role | Goals and features |

BladeLogic Administrator | BladeLogic Administrators are responsible for installing, upgrading, and maintaining the TrueSight Server Automation Suite and all its applications and components. |
Windows/UNIX Administrators | OS Administrators are responsible for managing systems of a particular operating system and for creating content for the Operators to use, such as system packages (for provisioning), patch catalogs, or software packages. |
Virtual Infrastructure Administrator | The Virtual Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for configuring TrueSight Server Automation for specific virtual environments and for creating virtual machines. The product enables the Virtual Infrastructure Administrator to create multiple virtual machines with the same basic configuration in a single process. |
Windows/UNIX Operators | Operators are responsible for the day to day administration tasks for the Microsoft Windows and UNIX environments, such as provisioning, patching, and compliance. While Operators do not create the content for these operations (the system packages, component templates, and jobs), they are responsible for running the applicable TrueSight Server Automation jobs and debugging issues with job runs. |
Virtual Infrastructure Operator | The Virtual Infrastructure Operator is responsible for using the product to manage the virtual environment, such as starting, stopping, and suspending virtual machines and viewing virtual machine status. |
Security Administrators | Security Administrators are responsible for defining security polices and implementing the required level of security for the infrastructure. Security Administrator are also responsible for:

IT Manager/IT Director | The IT Manager/Director is responsible for the overall operation of the data center. The IT Manager/Director uses reports exported from TrueSight Server Automation to help assess the status of the environment. |
