Creating a MAC pool

If a UCS template includes specifications for one or more LAN NICs, each NIC must have its own MAC address. Although you can specify the MAC address for a NIC manually, it is often convenient to create a MAC pool that contains ranges of MAC addresses. After you create a MAC pool, the UCS template can use the pool to find an available MAC address during provisioning.

Note that the MAC addresses in the pool are actually allocated during the provisioning process—they are not allocated when you create the UCS template. The provisioning process allocates the MAC addresses in the pool sequentially.

Note

If you run out of MAC addresses in a MAC pool, you can deallocate one or more MAC addresses, thus making them available for provisioning. For information, see Managing-UCS-systems.

To create a MAC pool

  1. In the Depot folder, right-click a folder under which you want to create the MAC pool and select New > UCS > MAC Pool.
  2. Provide information for the new pool as described in the following sections:

  3. Click Finish.
The MAC pool appears in the Depot folder hierarchy.

Note

To edit a defined MAC pool, open the Depot folder and navigate to the pool. Right-click the the name of the pool and select Open. The pool appears in the editor, where you can change, add or delete MAC ranges.
