Architecture summary and resource sharing

A TrueSight Server Automation system has a three-tier architecture that consists of client, server, and middle tiers. For an architecture diagram and information about each of the tiers, see TrueSight-Server-Automation-architecture.

System components

The components in the three-tier TrueSight Server Automation system are as follows:

  • TrueSight Server Automation console — A GUI-based system for provisioning servers and automating their management
  • Network shell — A cross-platform shell with scripting capability that gives seamless access to remote servers from central management workstations
  • RSCD agent — Software that must be installed and running on each remote server that TrueSight Server Automation accesses
  • Application Server — Secure, scalable software for controlling communication between TrueSight Server Automation components and remote servers and databases. The Application Server is also used during initial server provisioning.
  • TrueSight Smart Reporting for Server Automation — A reporting utility that delivers server configuration information to a web-based report viewer
  • PXE server — Component used for the unattended provisioning of operating systems onto servers
  • Command-line interface (CLI or BLCLI) — A set of utilities that you use to perform most TrueSight Server Automation tasks from a command line
  • File server — A file store, used by the Application Server, that holds deliverable content such as patches, applications, and shell scripts

Resource sharing

Many of the TrueSight Server Automation services can share underlying hardware and software resources, which reduces implementation cost and complexity. For example, if you are implementing an active-standby high-availability cluster for TrueSight Server Automation file server services, you can leverage that same cluster infrastructure for other services in the TrueSight Server Automation environment, such as the reports, provisioning, or data store server services.
