Using the driver selection GUI - PnP driver paths

In defining computer settings for a Microsoft Windows system package, you can use the driver selection GUI to browse to the data store and select PnP drivers.

Note

This information applies to Windows operating systems other than Windows 2008. For information about specifying the location of Windows 2008 PnP drivers, see Computer settings - Windows 2008.

To select PnP driver paths

  1. On the Computer Settings tab, next to PnP driver paths, click Browse g_V95_BrowseIcon.gif.
  2. For Select DataStore, browse to the data store that contains the PnP drivers.

    Note

Browsing the data store for the PnP drivers has the following requirements:

    • The drivers must exist in the same data store as the rest of the installation files for this system package.
    • A server object whose name matches the LOCATION property of the data store instance you selected must exist in the BMC Server Automation environment.
  3. In the left pane, expand the root folder down to the folder that contains drivers or subfolders with drivers.

    Note

If you filled in the Path to $OEM$ directory, the navigation panel uses that $OEM$ path as its root. If you did not fill in the Path to $OEM$ directory, the navigation panel uses the data store root as its root.

All drivers in the folder and its subfolders appear in the right panel.

    Note

The selected folder must contain files with the .inf extension. If you select a folder that does not contain any .inf files, the system displays an error message.

  4. Use the arrow keys to further select drivers. Then click OK.
The paths appear in the PnP driver paths field on the Computer Settings panel and the required entries are added to the Unattend Entries file. The paths appear in NSH format.

    Note

If you do not fill in the Path to $OEM$ directory, the system checks to see if the directories you specify are directly beneath the i386 or amd64 directory. If they are not, they are automatically copied to a location directly beneath the i386 or amd64 directory. (For this to work, the system package type must specify the OS installer path. Otherwise, an error message appears.) For more information, see When-to-use-Specify-path-to-OEM-directory.

  5. If you have not associated this system package with this data store, a message appears prompting whether to set this data store as the default data store for this system package.
To display the contents of this data store every time you start the driver selection GUI from this system package, click Yes. (Note that if you associate this data store with this system package, this data store is displayed by default if you subsequently browse for mass storage drivers.)
