Scaling the BladeLogic RDS

This topic presents high level information on how to scale your BMC BladeLogic Rapid Deployment Stack (BladeLogic RDS) for use as a production or full system environment. This option is only possible if you use an external SQL or Oracle database server.

This topic includes the following sections:

Separate the database

The BladeLogic RDS is available with the following database configurations:

  • BladeLogic RDS with Oracle database dump
  • BladeLogic RDS with SQL database dump
  • BladeLogic RDS with Oracle XE pre-installed.

The BladeLogic RDS configurations that use a separate external customer database (BladeLogic RDS with Oracle DB dump or with SQL database dump) can be easily scaled, based on the server used to host the database. See Configuring the BladeLogic RDS components-Setting up the database.

Separate the File server

Currently, the File server is a part of the same virtual machine on which the Application server is installed. To extend your RDS deployment, you must migrate the File server to a different machine. Migrating the File server enables system scaling and reduces the load on the Application server.

We recommend that initially, you configure the migrated File server with the same configuration as the Application server. To migrate the file server, see Changing-the-location-of-the-file-server.

Add an Application Server

To scale your environment horizontally, from version 8.6 and above, use the Add Application Server Node feature.

To add one more Application server to your environment, create a new Linux machine with the same configuration as the primary Application server, and follow the procedures documented in Adding-additional-Application-Servers
