Installing the script-based patching solution for Solaris 11

Use the following steps to install the script-based solution for the management of Solaris 11 patches. During the installation, scripts are stored in the depot and an extended object is imported into the Configuration Object Dictionary.

To install the script-based patching solution for Solaris 11

  1. From your local BMC Support representative, obtain the package for Solaris 11 patching, Solaris11_Script-8.3.03.zip, and store it in a temporary location.
  2. Extract the .zip file locally on the host computer of the BMC Server Automation Application Server, into the NSH directory (typically C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BladeLogic\NSH or /opt/bmc/bladelogic/NSH).
The extracted top-level Solaris11_Script-8.3.03 directory contains two sub-directories — Scripts and Exports.
  3. Through the BMC Server Automation Console, prepare a depot folder in which to store the provided scripts:
    1. Right-click the depot folder and select New > Depot Folder.
    2. In the wizard, enter a name for the folder (such as Solaris 11 Patch Analysis) and (optionally) a description, and then click Finish.
  4. Import the script for updating the repository:
    1. Right-click the folder that you prepared in step 3, and select Import.
    2. On the first wizard panel, the Select Import Source Directory panel, browse to the directories that you extracted in step 2, and select the Solaris11_Script-8.3.03/Exports/UpdateRepo directory. Then click Next.
    3. On the Import contents panel, ensure that an object named UpdateRepo appears. Then click Finish.
  5. Import the script for performing patch analysis:
    1. Right-click the folder that you prepared in step 3, and select Import.
    2. On the first wizard panel, the Select Import Source Directory panel, browse to the directories that you extracted in step 2, and select the Solaris11_Script-8.3.03/Exports/Solaris 11 Patching directory. Then click Next.
    3. On the Import contents panel, ensure that an object named Solaris 11 Patching appears. Then click Finish.
  6. Import an extended object named Solaris 11 Analysis Results into the Configuration Object Dictionary:

    1. To open the Configuration Object Dictionary, select Configuration > Config Object Dictionary.
    2. To open the Import wizard, click Import Configuration Objectg_V95_ImportConfigurationObject.gif.
    3. On the first wizard panel, the Select Import Source Directory panel, browse to the directories that you extracted in step 2, and select the Solaris11_Script-8.3.03/Exports/Solaris 11 Analysis Results_Solaris directory. Then click Next.
    4. On the Import contents panel, ensure that an extended object named Solaris 11 Analysis Results appears. Then click Finish.

The extended object is imported into the Configuration Object Dictionary. You can later use this extended object to view patching analysis results through Live Browse.
For more information about importing objects, see Importing BMC Server Automation objects.
