Finding and replacing text in a BLPackage
Using the BLPackage editor, you can find and optionally replace text. Finding and replacing text can be particularly useful when editing large BLPackages.
To find and replace text
- In the hierarchy view, select an object, right-click, and take one of the following actions:
- Select Find to find text.
- Select Replace to find and replace text.
- The Find dialog box appears. Contents of the dialog vary depending on whether you are finding text or finding and replacing text.
- Use the options in the Find dialog box to narrow your search.
- *Find what* — Enter the text string you are searching for.
- Replace with — Enter the text string that should replace the string you have found. This option is not available if you selected Find rather than Replace in step 1.
- *Options* — Check any of the following:
- Case sensitive — Searches for text that matches the case of the text string you have entered.
- Pattern match (? & *) — Searches for text using wild card input. A question mark (?) instructs the search to search for any single character. For example, two question marks instruct the search to look for any two consecutive characters. An asterisk (*) instructs the search to look for a string of characters of any length.
- Whole words only — Searches only for complete text strings that match the string you have entered.
- Object Types — Specify the type of objects you want to search by selecting one of the following:
- All object types — Search all types of objects included in the BLPackage.
- Selected object types — Search for instances of a particular object type. You can choose from any of the object types that might be included in the BLPackage, such as File System, Registry, or Metabase.
- Object Scope — Specify the portion of the BLPackage you want to search by selecting one of the following:
- Selected object and its children — Searches the selected object and any objects nested beneath the selected object.
- Whole package — Searches the entire BLPackage.
- Object Property Scope — Specify the object properties you want to search by doing one of the following:
- Select Any to search all object properties.
- Select the text box and enter the object property you want to search, such as FILELOCATION or UNIQUEFILENAME.
- Do one of the following to find and optionally replace text:
- To find text, click Find. When the search utility finds a match, it highlights the text string and displays a dialog. Click one of the following:
- Find Next — Searches for another instance of the text string.
- Cancel — Cancels the search.
- To find and replace text, click Replace. When the search utility finds a match, it highlights the text string and displays a dialog. Click one of the following:
- Replace — Replaces the highlighted text string and searches for another instance of the text string.
- Skip — Ignores the current match and searches for another instance of the text string.
- Replace All — Replaces all instances of the text string.
- Cancel — Cancels the search.
- To find text, click Find. When the search utility finds a match, it highlights the text string and displays a dialog. Click one of the following:
Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
