Finding and replacing text in a BLPackage

Using the BLPackage editor, you can find and optionally replace text. Finding and replacing text can be particularly useful when editing large BLPackages.

To find and replace text

  1. In the hierarchy view, select an object, right-click, and take one of the following actions:
    • Select Find to find text.
    • Select Replace to find and replace text.
    • The Find dialog box appears. Contents of the dialog vary depending on whether you are finding text or finding and replacing text.
  2. Use the options in the Find dialog box to narrow your search.
    • *Find what* — Enter the text string you are searching for.
    • Replace with — Enter the text string that should replace the string you have found. This option is not available if you selected Find rather than Replace in step 1.
    • *Options* — Check any of the following:
      • Case sensitive — Searches for text that matches the case of the text string you have entered.
      • Pattern match (? & *) — Searches for text using wild card input. A question mark (?) instructs the search to search for any single character. For example, two question marks instruct the search to look for any two consecutive characters. An asterisk (*) instructs the search to look for a string of characters of any length.
      • Whole words only — Searches only for complete text strings that match the string you have entered.
    • Object Types — Specify the type of objects you want to search by selecting one of the following:
      • All object types — Search all types of objects included in the BLPackage.
      • Selected object types — Search for instances of a particular object type. You can choose from any of the object types that might be included in the BLPackage, such as File System, Registry, or Metabase.
    • Object Scope — Specify the portion of the BLPackage you want to search by selecting one of the following:
      • Selected object and its children — Searches the selected object and any objects nested beneath the selected object.
      • Whole package — Searches the entire BLPackage.
    • Object Property Scope — Specify the object properties you want to search by doing one of the following:
      • Select Any to search all object properties.
      • Select the text box and enter the object property you want to search, such as FILELOCATION or UNIQUEFILENAME.
  3. Do one of the following to find and optionally replace text:
    • To find text, click Find. When the search utility finds a match, it highlights the text string and displays a dialog. Click one of the following:
      • Find Next — Searches for another instance of the text string.
      • Cancel — Cancels the search.
    • To find and replace text, click Replace. When the search utility finds a match, it highlights the text string and displays a dialog. Click one of the following:
      • Replace — Replaces the highlighted text string and searches for another instance of the text string.
      • Skip — Ignores the current match and searches for another instance of the text string.
      • Replace All — Replaces all instances of the text string.
      • Cancel — Cancels the search.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
