Viewing UCS provisioning results through the KVM Console

The KVM Console view in the BMC Server Automation Console offers you an additional option for the display of active UCS Provisioning jobs and enables you to access associated KVM consoles. This view is not available directly after installation and you must first enable it.

For more information about perspectives and views in the BMC Server Automation Console, see Console-perspectives-and-views.

To enable launching the Cisco KVM Console

  1. Contact your Cisco support representative and request the Avocent components version 1.0.0.14 for KVM Console.
  2. Manually populate the obtained components on your BMC Server Automation Console hosts. Add the obtained components as follows:
    • For BMC Server Automation version 8.2 or later:
      installdir
      \CM\rcp\plugins\com.bladelogic.client.jars_1.0.0\lib
    • For all releases earlier than version 8.2, place the components under a KVMConsole folder in the lib folder, as follows:
      installdir
      \CM\rcp\plugins\com.bladelogic.client.jars_1.0.0\lib\KVMConsole

where installdir refers to the top level directory of the BMC Server Automation version installation — C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BMC BladeLogic\ on Windows, or /opt/bmc/bladelogic/ on Linux.

To access the KVM Console view and launch the Cisco KVM Console

  1. Choose Window > Show View > KVM Console.
The KVM Console view opens at the bottom of the Classic Perspective, adjacent to the Tasks in Progress view. It displays any UCS Provisioning jobs that are currently running, when they started, the job name, the type of job, the user name and role, the job priority, the identity resource type, the host name, the device name and description.
  2. To launch the Cisco KVM Console for a specific job, highlight a UCS provisioning job in the KVM Console view and click Launch KVM Console worddavde1faaa1b313db4cc4bef5ed13ee49bd.png.

    Note

Alternatively, you can launch the Cisco KVM Console through the Live Browse. Live browse the BMC Server Automation UCS Manager server, right-click the Blade node and select Show KVM Console.

The KVM Console is launched, if it is available. If the KVM Console is not available, a log shows what attempts were made to open the console and what succeeded or failed.

    Note

If you did not enable launching the KVM Console, the message "Unable to display command" is issued.
