Reports server high availability and disaster recovery

The BMC Decision Support for Server Automation product is fundamentally a data warehouse. It provides the capability to store vast amounts of historical information over many years and allows users to create customized reports based on this information.

Most enterprise users do not choose to invest in the infrastructure necessary to make their data warehouse highly available. Rather, they focus on the implementation of disaster-recovery solutions.

Disaster recovery for BMC Decision Support for Server Automation affects the database and the reports server. For recommendations about database disaster recovery, see Disaster-recovery-for-database-servers. Typical disaster recovery solutions for the reports server include one or both of the following methods:

  • Regular backups of the server
  • Replication and redundancy of file system data

The solution that you choose depends on your enterprise's tolerances for report server downtime during a disaster.
