Adding a server to the system

You can add a server using the BMC Server Automation Console. When you add a server, you can install an agent on the server at the same time.

When you add a server to the system, you have the option of installing an agent on the server by running an Agent Installer Job. Some preliminary procedures are required before you can run an Agent Installer Job. For information about those requirements, see Agent-installation-overview.

When you use this procedure to add a server, the server is added to the system's internal list of managed servers and automatically appears in any smart server groups whose criteria it matches. When you add a server to a server group, the server appears in that group. When you add a server to the Servers node, the server is not added to any server group. If you want to add the new server to a server group, you must explicitly add the server (see Assigning-servers-to-server-groups).

To add a new server, your role must be granted the Server.Create authorization. For more information about granting authorizations, see Access-control-overview.

To add a server by using the console

  1. Open the Servers folder.
  2. Right-click the Servers node (the top node in the Servers folder) or any server group. Then select Add Server from the pop-up menu.
The Add New Server wizard opens.
  3. Provide information for the Add New Server wizard, as described in the following sections:

  4. Click Finish.
The server is added to a server group and it is included in the system's internal list of servers being managed. The server now appears in the list of available servers that you can add to a server group. See Assigning-a-server-to-a-server-group.
