Using the Skip Linux Pre-Install image option

To skip the Gentoo pre-installation image during provisioning of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware ESX, SUSE, or Citrix operating system to target devices, use the Skip Linux Pre-Install placeholder image.

Unlike other placeholder boot images, the Skip Linux Pre-Install image does not represent a boot image you created and stored on the TFTP server. Instead, associating this image with a device tells the provisioning system to skip the Gentoo pre-installation image when the Provision Job runs.

When you select the Skip Linux Pre-Install image option:

• You cannot configure the Skip Linux Pre-Install image to set it as the default image type.
• If a device associated with the Skip Linux Pre-Install image tries to boot from the PXE server when a Provision Job for that device is not running, the PXE server ignores boot requests from the device.
• There is no autodiscovery of devices associated with the Skip Linux Pre-Install image.
• System package pre-installation scripts are ignored in provisioning a device associated with the Skip Linux Pre-Install image. To execute pre-installation scripts, use the %pre section of the Kickstart file or the pre-install section of AutoYaST.

To use the Skip Linux Pre-Install image in provisioning:

1. When you add or import a device, select Skip Linux Pre-Install as the boot image file.
2. Create the system package and create and run the Provision Job as you normally would.
   When the Provision Job runs, the provisioning process jumps to the Make Run Once step and the Kickstart/AutoYast file is generated on the data store.
